History of Oolong Tea

Oolong Tea

Oolong Tea comes from the same plant as green tea and black tea, but it is partially fermented. There are three different possible origins for the name of Oolong tea. The name is said to originally come from Wu Long, which means Black Dragon. It might have come from the Dragon-Phoenix Cake tribute tea, which was used for serving tributes. The second theory states that it was found in Wuyi mountain, first being documented in poems during the Ming Dynasty. Finally, there is the Anxi theory, which states that a man who was named Wulong discovered the tea by letting his tea leaves oxidize a bit before using them.

Oolong teas were very popular during the Qing Dynasty due to it being a favorite of Emperor Qian Long. Today it's a popular tea, being produced in Fujian province, Guangdong province, and Taiwan.
