Hour Glass
The first documented example of the hourglass is from 8th Century AD, being crafted by a Frankish monk from Chartres, France named Liutprand.
Hourglasses were later seen more commonly during the 14th century. Marine sandglasses became more popular during this time, as marine hourglasses allowed sea navigators to keep track of their time and navigation, being an essential item.
On land, hourglasses became more popular in order to track time at mass, home, and work. The hourglass now remains an important symbol of time, ranging from symbolic use to use as a loading icon on computers.
